Health Notes:  Dixie was originally adopted out by hart in 2015 and returned in Nov 2019 due to a medical issue in her human family. During Dixie's most recent stay with us, we discovered that she has perianal fistulas, which is a painful opening in the skin around the her anus. The condition can be compared to a carbuncle (a many headed abscess). Medical management typically involves the use of drugs that interfere with the inflammatory response and has been successful in Dixie's case. Her adoptive parents need to know that this is a chronic condition for which she will require medication and monitoring as she may have relapses in future. Dixie is up to date on her standard antiparasitics, vaccinations (DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies), microchip and her spay.

Behavior Note: Dixie is a lovely girl but on the cautious side with people. While she loves meeting new people, she has to be allowed to initiate all new greetings. We found with this tactic she warms up very quickly! She is good with other dogs, with proper introductions. She currently lives with a young puppy, and has been good with every dog she has met. She will give good body language if a dog is too excited and in her face. She is good with cats and she has also met a ferret and there was no issue. She is good with kids, and loves getting pets. Dixie is fully house trained and crate trained. She has great recall, and is not a flight risk when she's with people she trusts. She's great on leash and a low energy dog, so she has no ambition to pull. She will only go up on furniture when invited (good girl!) and she loves cuddles and pets.
