About Me:  Hi there! I bet you almost didn't notice me! I am a very cautious boy and like to take things slow... the world is so busy and fast paced and that can sure be a lot to take in all at once. I might be what you humans refer to as an "introvert"... you sure won't see me rushing into situations like a social butterfly! Nope, not me! The world has enough of those outgoing types though, right? I dream of having a doggy sibling to live with as I am very comfortable around my fellow 4 legged kind. Also, can I tell you a secret? I am actually not that energetic either...I really enjoy taking life slow, going for my daily stroll, and then hanging out with my family. I just know there has to be some people out there that understand what it is like to find comfort in calmness. Do you think that we could be a match?

Health Notes: Pablo came to hart from the Albert Spay and Neuter Task Force after having been quilled by a porcupine. Early in hart's care, Pablo had some soft stools and despite changing food it persisted. Pablo was tested for uncommon parasites and an intestinal fluke call Alaria was found in his system. Despite being very uncommon, Alaria had a simple treatment. Adoptive parents for Pablo need to be aware that quills can continue to migrate and erupt for up to a year. Pablo is now ready for adoption and is up to date with DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is neutered and microchipped.

Behaviour Notes: Pablo is a fearful boy and needs a calm environment. He is fearful of strange people and loud noises. He shows clear body language when he is fearful of something, and he will cower and retreat. It is highly recommended to remove him from those situations so he can continue to retreat. After several meetings, patience and not rushing things with Pablo, he does warm up to people. It took his foster mom a week before he was really comfortable with her and trust her. He is great with other dogs and it is recommended that he goes to a home with at least 1 other dog, as he does rely on the other dog to figure out who is safe and who isn't. This makes meeting new people faster than without another dog. He can be good with kids, but they need to be able to learn when it is time to leave Pablo alone. Small children must be supervised at all times so that when Pablo wants to be left alone he can retreat without the child following him. He's never been aggressive with a child but we want him to get space when he needs it. He hasn't been tested with cats, but he is such a calm boy that his foster mom doesn't think there would be any issues. Pablo is a low-medium energy dog who requires 1 walk a day and loves the backyard. He needs help building confidence as he doesn't have any at this time. He is fearful going into the crate, and whines a little in the crate, but has been left loose and does great. He is a bit of a puller on leash, but is pretty good otherwise. He is housetrained, knows some basic commands and is good with recall in the house. Once he learns to trust you, he will be your best friend! He loves to play with toys and is very intelligent. He learns very quickly when food is involved.

Think you have found your furever friend?
