Remy
-
Mixed breed
-
1 year old
-
Female
Weight (approx): 49 lbs
Energy: Medium
Children: Older children
Dogs: No
Cats: No
Health Notes: Remy came into hart's
care after being hit by a car. Her first stop was an emergency vet
hospital for surgery for her broken left hind leg where plates and
screws were inserted. Now that she has healed up, Remy is ready to
find her forever family. Remy is currently on a medication to help
her with anxiety but her foster family along with our medical team
is working on weaning her off of it. The cost of this
medication is approximately $30/month. Remy is up to date
with her standard antiparasitics, vaccinations (DACPP, Bordatella,
Rabies), microchip and spay.
Ideal Home: A home without animals,
she is very relaxed and settled and we haven't noticed the resource
guarding behaviours that were there when other animals were
around. She would love to have kids around, but probably a
bit older so they can be taught how to interact with her.
A bit more info about Remy: She is
a very fast learner and will do anything for treats! On
walks, she is a work in progress, but is doing so well! She
mostly walks on a loose leash, she is fed her meals while walking
so is rewarded for good leash skills! She is very much aware
of the rabbits in the neighborhood and is getting very good at not
reacting! She does bark at people walking by the window, but
we're working on this behaviour. She is aware of cars driving
by on our walks; but it has improved so much as we continue working
on desensitization. If we don't introduce her to people
(particularly men) in a certain way, she will bark at them.
She hasn't bitten or snapped, but she is alert - we always have
treats for the person meeting her and she is very receptive.
We are also working on desensitization when walking past people and
dogs and she handles this very well, she is alert, but mostly
doesn't respond. I haven't seen Remy
get irritated with anything. She smells at the counter if
there is food around, but she doesn't try to get it, whine, bark or
growl. I can leave her kibble on the bench while we get ready
for a walk and she will smell and lick the bag but not eat
it. If her humans are busy doing something, she will check it
out, but then go lie down on the couch. If we're eating, she
lingers for a bit, but once she knows she isn't get anything, she
goes and lies down with one of her bones.
She loves people when she gets to know them, loves cuddling, but is
still independent, she is such a great dog!
