About Me:  More informaton about me coming soon!

Behavior Notes:  Sapphire is a wonderful dog who is medium energy. She gets excited with other dogs and new animals she doesn't know, so she needs slow, proper introductions. There is some dog reactivity and she barks at new dogs on walks. Sapphire's foster home is currently training her to "Focus" as a way to redirect her attention off the other dog! Sapphire is muzzle trained. She is a bit of a puller on leash but is crate trained and is excellent in it! She has never been left loose in the house, so we're not sure how she'll be. She has been around young children, and is great with them. She knows sit, stay, crate and wait. YAY Sapphire!

Health Notes:  Sapphire was transferred into hart's care after having been hit by a car and having FHO surgery. FHO stands for femoral head osteomy and is the surgical removal of the head and neck of the femur. Once the ball part of the ball-and-socket joint is removed, the surrounding muscles and developing scar tissue work to support the area and act as a false joint. During Sapphire's rehab it was noted that she was still not using her back leg as well as was expected so she was assessed by one of our veterinary partners and another surgery was required. Since that time, Sapphire has been increasing her strength and mobility very nicely. Sapphire will never be a running dog (while she can run, long distance running is not the best activity for her), but she benefits greatly from an active lifestyle with hiking, walking and swimming.

Sapphire is up to date with DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is spayed and microchipped.
