About Me:  I may only have three legs but that's still one more than you! Luckily I'm more into relaxing on the couch with my favourite humans than causing too much of a commotion in the backyard. I'm calm, cool and collected - it's not out of the ordinary to catch me laying down outside quietly watching the world around me. Don't let that fool you, though. I can be social when I want to be and I'm always up for making new doggie friends as long as they respect my space. Do you have older children in the house? They're my favourite! Don't be offended if I'm more friendly with them at first, I'll warm up to you eventually and we'll be binge watching Netflix together in no time. I have a good grasp of basic commands and I'm crate trained, but I'm not so interested in learning new tricks so don't ask me to get the popcorn ready - that one's on you.

Health Notes: Skittles came to hart from an Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force clinic because she was not weight bearing on her front right leg.  As it turns out, her right front leg had multiple old injuries that had healed poorly and impacted bone growth patterns of her shoulder and elbow.  Ultimately, Skittles' vet recommended amputation.  Skittles adjusted very easily to being a tri-pawd and will be able to live a very happy, healthy and active life.

We do want Skittles' adoptive parents to be aware as Skittles ages to:
  • Watch her weight so that there is not extra strain on her remaining limbs
  • Exercise her regularly - walking is good, swimming is great, long distance running is not best - but do not allow her to overdo it
  • Take good care of her skin and pads to prevent calluses and pressure sores
  • Give Skittles a boost on stairs and monitor her mobility as she ages
  • Use a car seat harness because it has extra wide chest bands
  • Help Skittles get into cars, onto sofas or beds as jumping and landing can be slightly more challenging for a 3 legged dog.
Skittles is is up to date with DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is neutered and microchipped.

Behavior Notes:     Coming Soon!
