Hi! I'm Vince!

  • Vince
  • Mixed breed
  • 2 years old
  • Male

Weight (approx): 66 lbs

Energy: High

Children: Good

Dogs: Selective

Cats: Good

Health Notes: Vince came from our target community after residents were concerned about him being quilled.  Well meaning individuals tried to remove the quills, but it was very painful for Vince and they were not able to get them all.  Vince underwent surgery to remove the remaining quills.  Adoptive parents for Vince need to be aware that while he has undergone surgery for the removal of quills, they can continue to migrate and erupt for up to a year.  Vince is up to date with DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is neutered and microchipped.

Behavior Notes: Vince is a high energy dog, who needs a very dedicated home. Vince is good with cats, but we do recommend a cat that has lived with a dog before, as Vince does likes to chase, but doesn't hurt the cat. He is good with kids, he's been exposed to ages newborn - 12 years old, but like every dog, supervision is recommended when the kids and Vince are together. Vince does have leash reactivity towards other dogs, though he has been able to be introduced to other dogs. We find that he reacts the worst towards dogs larger than him on leash. We do recommend that if there is a dog in the home, that the dog is smaller than him or about the same size. He would be great as the only dog as well. Vince loves to run around the backyard at his foster home full speed, he loves to play fetch and will even sometimes bring the ball back, he is also very happy to play by himself. He goes for a one hour walk a day. He is house trained and crate trained. But he does need something to do in the crate like a frozen kong, because he does get bored and will destroy his bed. He is a power chewer so needs good resilient toys that will last. He needs a home who can commit to him and his training, understand that the leash reactivity maybe a life long behavior for him and accept Vince as he is. We do have a trainer involved and recommend that the trainer is involved, as he is making amazing strides in his reactivity, and is getting so much better with other dogs. He will make an absolutely awesome pet for a family.

Ideal Home: Vince will need a home with a fenced yard.  He will require a strong owner who is willing to continue his much needed training with leash reactivty towards other dogs.  Vince can get along with other dogs and wants to play with them but he does play rough so smaller dogs are not recommended.
