Mutterings - how do dogs run so fast?

Anyone who has taken a dog for a run, or have had their dog test
their recall, knows that a dog can run much faster than a
human. There are a few reasons, they have quadra-peds
and we are bi-peds, they have very muscular legs and they move much
more efficiently.
Did you know though, that a dog's shoulder blades are unattached
to the rest of the skeleton to allow for greater flexibility for
running?
The average dog can run about 19 miles per hour while at a world
class level, the average running speed for humans is about 8 miles
per hour.
Greyhounds, the fastest of the canine group, can run at speeds
of 45 miles per hour.
Try catching them in your slippers as they run down the
street!!
