Why did you get into fostering?
Well, I really wanted a second dog! I love dogs and our pup Maggie
loves doggie friends! However, it was a struggle in the household
whether a second dog was a good move. So, as a compromise, we
decided to foster! We could test the waters with a second dog, and
give back to the rescue who gave us our beloved Maggie :) it's also
something I've always been interested in doing, I was just never
confident I had the tough skin for it!
Which hart dogs have you fostered?
Yogi, Ginny, Austin, and now Hank (who is our foster fail )
What has been the most rewarding aspect to
fostering?
Seeing the progress in the dogs!! It's truly amazing what some of
these dogs have gone through and come out the sweetest, most loving
pups! And amazingly smart :) it's amazing how excited I would
get when one of our fosters would figure out what the bells on the
door are for, or learn to sit or stay, or figure out which "cute
face" would get them table scraps. I think the other side of it
though is getting updates from our fosters new parents. I
still get emotional over updates on Yogi, our first foster, and
they come a few times a month haha it's amazingly gratifying to
know we did our jobs right and picked the perfect home for these
special dogs.
When individuals think it will be too much work or too
emotionally taxing, what feedback do you have for
them?
It is!!!! I won't lie. Like I said, I still find myself
tearing up over updates. But as hard as it is sometimes,
watching them leave your house for the last time, I take solace in
knowing that they've gone to great homes!! The tears do turn in to
happy ones, eventually :)
If your foster dog(s) could speak, what do you
think they would say to you?
"You're so emotional!!!" Hahaha No :) I think they would say what
every other foster in every other foster home would say; "thank
you!!"
