Karla and Cam Alsop

How long have you been volunteering for hart?
Since September of 2013

What is your volunteer role within hart?
We started off as foster parents and eventually also joined the foster home vetting and supplies teams. So far we have had 4 fosters, Copper, Zaya (foster fail), Beluga, and Brex.

What do you do when you are not volunteering?
I am an engineer, and Cam is a mechanic. We also like to take our dog Zaya (and whatever foster we have at the time) to the park and for walks. In the summer Cam enters his classic mustang in car shows.

If you were a rescue dog, what kind would you be?
I would probably be one that is shy and timid at first, but opens up once I know I am safe and loved. Cam would be the big goofy dog that loves everyone right away.

Why do you volunteer with hart?
We wanted to help dogs find their forever homes. We also love being able to meet so many of the dogs and people at all the events!

What experience in hart made you realize you were making a difference?
Seeing the difference in the dogs from the moment we bring them in, to the moment they are adopted has been very rewarding. They often come in injured, scared and underweight, and go off to their forever home happy and healthy. It's really an awesome thing to see.

What advice would you have for someone who is considering volunteering?
Do it!
